After completing this 8 week/192 hour course the student will have met the sections required for a Firefighter I in the NFPA® 1001, 2013 edition, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.
Classroom and training ground instruction includes firefighter skills, fire behavior, fire control techniques, fire ground operations, salvage, hazardous materials, and incident command. Training ground activities allow the recruits to apply their knowledge and emphasize the mastery of basic manipulative firefighter activities and skills needed to perform tasks successfully and safely.
Classes are held at Station 94, Snohomish County Fire District #19, 2720 212th St. NW, Stanwood, WA 98292.
Program objective: To meet the standards for Washington State Firefighter I Certification. Upon successful completion of this 8 week program, attendees will receive a FIREFIGHTER I certificate of program completion. This qualifies the student to take the Washington State Exam for Firefighter I Certification. The State requires the student to have successfully completed both the Firefighter 1 and Hazardous Materials Operations to receive their Firefighter I certificate.
Method of instruction: Program will be completed onsite in the classroom. Courses are comprised of lecture and lab instruction. Some online coursework is also required, which is performed offsite.
